Why I Chose Shopify for My Cottage Bakery
Share
When I started The Blissful Bakehouse, I knew I needed a way to sell my products that would work for the kind of business I was building.
I'm a cottage bakery owner in Central Florida, which means my business doesn't look exactly like a traditional brick-and-mortar bakery. I take online orders, prepare everything fresh, and I also get out into the community and sell at local markets.
I needed something that could keep up with all of that.
That's how I ended up choosing Shopify.
And honestly, it has made running my business so much easier.
Shopify Became My Online Storefront
One of the things I love most about Shopify is having a place where I can really showcase my business.
My website is more than somewhere people go to place an order. It's where I get to introduce people to The Blissful Bakehouse, show off my breads, share my story, and create an experience that feels like my brand.
As a small business owner, being able to control how my business looks and feels online is important to me.
And I don't need to be a website designer or know how to code to make it happen.
I can add products, update information, change things around, and keep my website looking fresh as my business grows.
That's a huge win for me.
But Shopify Isn't Just for My Website
This is probably one of my favorite things about Shopify.
I also participate in markets, and having Shopify's POS system makes selling in person incredibly easy.
Before having a system like this, I could imagine how stressful it would be trying to keep track of everything separately—what sold at a market, how much I made, what inventory I have left, and then making sure everything lines up with my online store.
With Shopify POS, my online and in-person sales can work together.
I can bring my products to a market, ring up a customer's purchase right from my POS, and keep those sales connected to the same Shopify system I use for my website.
It makes the whole process feel much more organized.
And when you're standing at a market with customers waiting to purchase your bread, easy matters.
I don't want to spend that time fighting with technology.
I want to spend it talking to customers, making sales, and enjoying the experience of being a small business owner in my community.
The POS Has Been a Game Changer for Markets
One of the things that surprised me about Shopify is how accessible the POS system is.
Shopify offers a free POS option, which was especially appealing to me as a small business owner.
When you're building a business, you're constantly asking yourself, "Is this expense actually worth it?"
I have to be mindful of every dollar I spend.
Having access to a POS system that works with my Shopify store means I'm not paying for a completely separate system just to sell at markets.
That's the kind of simplicity I appreciate.
It's Easy to Use
I'm not interested in making my business more complicated than it needs to be.
Shopify gives me the tools I need without making me feel like I need to be a technology expert to use them.
That's important because I do a lot of the work behind The Blissful Bakehouse myself.
I need to be able to log in, make a change, add a product, check an order, or prepare for a market without having to call someone every time I need something done.
Shopify gives me that freedom.
And the Cost Works for Me
Of course, cost matters.
There are a lot of platforms and business tools out there, and when you're a small business, you have to decide where your money is best spent.
For me, Shopify's fees are manageable for what I get in return.
I'm getting an online storefront, payment processing, order management, and POS capabilities that I can use when I'm selling at markets.
For the way I run The Blissful Bakehouse, having those pieces working together is worth it.
If You're Thinking About Starting Your Own Business…
I think sometimes we make starting a business feel much more complicated than it has to be.
You don't need to have everything figured out before you start.
You don't need a huge storefront.
You don't need a massive team.
And you definitely don't need to know everything about technology.
You just need to find the tools that make sense for your business and be willing to learn as you go.
That's what I've done.
The Blissful Bakehouse has grown, changed, and evolved, and I've learned so much along the way.
Shopify has been one of the tools that has made that process easier for me.
Whether you're starting a cottage bakery, selling handmade products, attending markets, or simply trying to turn something you love into a business, having a reliable way to sell your products can make a huge difference.
Why I Chose Shopify
At the end of the day, I chose Shopify because it works for the way I do business.
I can have my online store where customers can discover my products and place orders.
I can take my business with me to local markets and use the POS to make sales in person.
I can manage everything from one place.
And I can do it without needing to be a tech expert.
That's exactly what I was looking for.
I'm not saying Shopify is the right choice for every business. But if you're taking that leap of faith and looking for a platform that can support both online and in-person selling, Shopify is absolutely worth considering.
And if you're anything like me, you'll probably learn a lot along the way.
That's part of building something of your own.
